What is a laminate floor?
When looking at a laminate flooring product you are seeing a high-quality photograph of real wood or stone, covered by an incredibly strong indentation-resistant wear layer, supported by underlying structural layers. These layers are then fused together to form the durable and beautiful floor being looked at. For added comfort and sound installation, many laminates also have an additional cushioned layer fused to the bottom, while others are simply installed over a foam underlayment.
Why would I choose a laminate floor for my home?
- Laminate captures the look of authentic wood or stone floors, but at a greatly reduced cost.
- Extreme stain and scuff resistance, even when confronted with the claws of four-legged friends.
- Wear layers have built-in UV protection, preventing pattern fading due to direct sunlight.
- Easy to clean – laminate floors don’t trap dirt, and spills are easily captured with either a sponge or mop.
- Typically installed over the existing floor, eliminating the need for tearing up old floors or installing new sub-floors.
- Can be installed at all grade levels; even below grade.
